How about some good news!!

Welcome to Funky Cards

While reading Marley's journal today on Caring Bridge, I read this awesome news about Marley's dad, Brent.  This quote is from that journal.

"The Society for Teaching of Psychology chooses one professor and one grad student to receive the SAGE Publications Teaching Innovations & Professional Development Award. ONE award is chosen nationwide for their amazing work...and guess who was chosen!!

BRENT!!!"

...he deserves it! They are flying him out to the APA conference to present him with the award...in Washington, DC! Congrats Brent, we're so proud of you!!!"

I was really happy when I read this.  I just had to share this with all of you who have been following Marley and her story:)  Congratulations Mr. Moore.

Have a great weekend.

Sad news

Welcome to Funky Cards

Good morning everyone.  As the month of July comes to an end, I wanted thank those of you who took the time to submit a card or cards to my "I Feel the Love Project." It is because of your continued support that this project will grow and spread the love one card at a time:)

Yesterday I received some sad news concerning one of Marley's relatives.  This is what I learned:

"(Marley's grandma) just found out on Monday that her husband, has stomach cancer that has spread in his lungs, lymph nodes, pancreas, hip. They're starting his treatments today. Please keep him in your prayers. Not sure how much more my Aunt Sharon can handle at this point. Very, very sad."

So as Ms. Sharon goes forward today with both her husband and her granddaughter fighting this horrible disease, if you are so inclined, say a pray.

Thank you so much!

Thank You Center Step Card

Welcome to Funky Cards

Today I would like to show you a very simple center step card I made and lead you to a tutorial so that you can try one for yourself.

If you have never made a center step card, it is the kind of card that stands up and can be displayed. In the photo above the card is standing.

The flower was cut using Kate's ABC's Cricut cartridge. The sentiment is from Pink By Design's "Vintage Greeting" stamp set.

Alex from "You Had Me At Craft" has created a tutorial showing how to make center step cards.  Click HERE to see the tutorial.  Alex is also the hostess of  "Made it Myself Mondays".

You can make a card or any other project and link it to her blog today!

Project using Kate's ABCs

Welcome To Funky Cards

On Monday I kicked off
by posting this project on CWC.  Each Monday one CWC Design Team member will showcase one Cricut cartridge and create a project using that cartridge.  For those of you who may have missed it, I am posting the project on my blog today:)

I currently own about 20 Cricut cartridges and my favorite for the moment is Kate's ABCs. I wanted to share with you today how you could use a cut out from this Cricut cartridge to create a home decor project.  For those of you who follow my blog, you know that I love to paint.  Many of you claim that you don't know how to paint.  Well no more excuses!  Here is an easy way to paint!

Start with a blank canvas.  Mine was 11" by 14."

Using white card stock, I cut an image from Kate's ACBs at 6 1/2" and traced it onto the blank canvas.

Now it is a matter of choosing paint colors.  You have transfered this adorable cut out onto a canvas to hang in a little girl's room or anywhere you would like.  You can do this with any Cricut cartridge so you can see the opportunities are limitless.  I added "Love Life" and two butterflies to fill in  space on the canvas.  I freehanded these but you can use Cricut cuts and fonts!

I hope you have been inspired. Time to get out the paints and the Cricut and see what you can cook up:)

Thanks for stopping by!

Charlotte's card

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to Work I Go!

Welcome to Funky Cards

First I would like to wish my parents a Happy 21st wedding anniversary!  I love you Mom and Dad:)

I made this card for my mom to give to my dad.

And I made this card for my dad to give to my mom.  I love how they buy all their cards from me now, even their anniversary cards:)

Now, I have some exciting news, at least for me!  Guess what.  Last week I had my first job interview.  My mom, being my mom, couldn't let this big event go by without making it a Kodak moment.

Ok Mom, I'll get serious for just one minute.

Look Mom, I remembered my profile!  Since this is my first job I didn't have a resume so I created a profile to take with me.  This had my picture and some about information about me.  It also had all my contact information.

It's time to go Mom! Bye.

I got the call back I was waiting for.  I have a job!!  Today is my first day.  Can you guess where I work?  Look carefully at my work clothes.  Do they look familiar?

Black and Khaki! Welcome to Michael's can I help you?  It is official.  I got a job a part-time job at Michael's.  I'm so excited.  This is where I wanted to get my first job.  Now I just have to make sure to actually bring my paycheck home:)

Thanks for stopping by today!

Check out my Closet Redo!

Welcome to Funky Cards

So, what did I do yesterday? Well, as I sat on my bed the night before and stared at my closet I knew that there was something that just wasn't right.  My clothes were bothering me.  So, I did what most 16 year old girls would do.  Ok, maybe not. I went to bed and made a plan and yesterday I got out my drill and got to work!  When I say my drill, I really do mean my drill:)

Here is the before shot.  I only had one clothes pole and my clothes were squished.  I had two shelves for shoes and I really had no need for two shelves.  The cubbies on the right held volleyball stuff and some other miscellaneous stuff.  Too much clutter!  You can also see that I have three panels of material instead of a closet door.  Two are a purpleish color and the one in the middle is green.

Mission accomplished, shelves are gone and now I have two poles!! If you look closely on the left side of my closet you will see the tree I painted on my wall.  I painted this tree freehand.  It holds all my hats and scarves that I personally made.  This is also where I hang my special handmade gift that I received for my 16th birthday from Martha:)

Now that's better! I am so much happier:) Clothes can hang without getting all squished and the use of space makes much more sense.  Did you notice that I also took the green material and cut it down the middle and added half the green to each of the purple panels so that I would only have two panels for the closet closing?  Stay tuned, I think I will take the two shelves I took out of this closet and put them in my craft room closet.  Doesn't that just make sense?  Oh, while I was at it today, I fixed my mom's closet pole. It looked like it wanted to fall so I took her clothes down and tightened the screws and then rehung the clothes:)

So how did you spend your day?  Hope you enjoyed it whatever you did!  Thanks for stopping by!
