A Must Read Story of the Magic of Love

Welcome to Funky Cards

When I read the letter that came with the thank you cards I received today, I knew I wanted to share it with you. Please take a moment to read about the amazing young lady who helped Ms. Sandi create these thanks you cards for the July I Feel the Love Project.

"... In 1986 the family was gathered at the hospital waiting for the arrival of their new addition.  Immediately the doctors  rushed baby Jessica to ICU because she was born with a cleft palate, a club foot, paralysis to the left side of her face, thus making her an at risk baby.  She was diagnosed with Trisomy 13 and a heart murr mur.  The statistics at that time were that 90% of children born with these conditions didn't live past the age of 3.  If she did survive, she would most likely have a low IQ, and have difficulty walking and talking if at all.

With years of therapy, two cleft palate surgeries, an eye surgery, three ear surgeries, a feeding tube, learning sign language... Jessica started walking and talking and is now an energetic and very expressive young lady who wants everyone to be happy.

It is with this love and enthusiasm that Jessica helped design and created these thank you notes for the I Feel the Love Project.

Jessica loves hearts and the background on the cards are hers and hers alone.  There was no input from anyone else, no guidance or even suggestions given!  There is such a magical rhythm to these hearts.

Some are open, some are closed, some have side pockets.  And to add to the magic of these cards, they were completed in spite of a tooth extraction and a traumatic seizure.  Jessica is a trooper!

Ms. Sandi added to read hearts and the word cloud on the inside of the card and packaged them to get mailed out.

We sincerely hope you appreciate and enjoy the "thank you" notes and gladly share the magic..."

Shout out to a friend who got hurt.

Welcome to Funky Cards

Today I wanted to share with you a card I made for a friend of mine who just fractured his wrist.  I made this card to go with the homemade chocolate chip cookies I sent him!!  Feel better soon Jeremy.

My card included the digi stamp QT Patootie Sparkler Boy from Papercraftingworld.com (PCW).   As you can see, this digi stamp was originally designed to be used for the 4th of July.

I decided to alter the image a bit to fit the occasion I needed.  I used Photoshop to erase the sparkler and draw a sling so that I could use it for a get well soon card. Digi stamps can be so versatile.

By editing this digi stamp in photoshop, you can see how it completely changes the look. You can always change the color of the clothes too time and time again.

This digi stamp looks so cute on this get well soon card for Jeremy.  I hope it makes him feel better.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a fabulous day!

From Virginia to Canada, the love keeps coming!

Once again a trip to the Post Office did not disappoint!  I just received packages from Virginia and from Canada loaded with love.  I am just so overwhelmed by the beautiful cards coming in for Mariyah and her mom.

Today included a set of six, blank, unsigned thank you notes for Mariyah's mom made by Ms. Clarissa, as well as a card for Mariyah.

And here is the card Ms. Clarissa made for Mariyah.

Today also included an assortment of thank you cards from Ms. Lynnette from Canada.  Here are just a couple, but Ms. Lynnette actually sent in 10.  You can see all the cards in the photo gallery by clicking HERE.

Ms. Lynnette also sent in a card for
Mariyah featuring Barney!

And a card for Mariyah's mom, Yvette.

Thank you both so much for all your beautiful cards.

Spreading the Love from New Mexico!

Welcome to Funky Cards
The Love for Mariyah keeps coming!

I was so excited when I went to the mailbox today and discovered an envelope from New Mexico.  How cool that we are reaching so many people with our project and that Mariyah and her mom can benefit from this outpouring of love.  Here is the card that Ms. Angelina made for Mariyah.  Remember, Mariyah is a big Barney fan!

We also said that we were looking for blank thank you cards this month for Mariyah's mom.  She will be using these to send to the individuals who donated money to help with Mariyah's medical bills.  Here is a set of three thank you notes that Ms. Angelina also made for this month's project.

Thank you so much for all your beautiful cards Ms. Angelina.

Easel Card with PCW DIGI Stamp!

Welcome to Funky Cards

I have been a member of the former Cooking with Cricut and now My Paper Crafting Design Team since Ms. Melin started her blog a couple of years ago.  For me, today starts a new chapter in our adventure and for this term I will be contributing projects every other Thursday.

My projects will include digi stamps and cutting files from Papercraftingworld.com (PCW).  There are so many adorable ones to choose from and I hope to inspire you to try something new.

My first Thursday project is a card I plan to send to Mariyah, the July 2013 recipient of the I Feel the Love Project cards.

I just loved this "Praying Kitty Digi Stamp" from PCW the first time I saw it.  I knew it would be perfect for a card for Mariyah.  I used it to make this easel card with the sentiment that says, "Praying for you."  The card is personalized with Mariyah's name and for added fun the background is embossed and inked.  A couple of flowers and a button with floss were added to finish off the card.

FREE DIGI STAMP and thank you to Canadian friend Amber!

Welome to Funky Cards
Something for Mariyah to smile about!

The I feel the Love Project loves their followers from Canada!!  We just received a package in the mail with a gift for Mariyah, this month's recipient of the I Feel the Love Project's cards/gifts.  Ms. Amber from Canada created a special custom Barney coloring book for Mariyah.  How cool is that?

Ms. Amber read that Mariyah is a HUGE Barney fan.  So Ms. Amber thoughtfully created this book just for her.  There are pages to color for every season of the year. Speaking of Barney, in honor of Mariyah, Ms. Melin at Papercraftingworld.com designed a digi stamp for you to use to create a card or project to share with Mariyah.

This digi stamp is FREE and you can download it by clicking HERE.  Please consider using it for the intended purpose.  Thank you.

Here is the card my mom made using the Barney digi stamp.  There are so many ways this can be incorporated into a card.  Mariyah would be so thrilled to see them all.

I Feel the Love Project- July 2013

Welcome to Funky Cards
Supporting an Amazing Child

This month the I Feel the Love Project is happy and honored to shine a light on Mariyah Ava.  Here is her story:

Mariyah is 4 years old.  She was born with Hypotonia. She has had extensive testing CT Scans, MRI's, LP's, genetics testing, ect.  Mariyah has been receiving PT, OT, and early intervention since she was 1. She is disabled but is still a very happy little girl. Kids that are disabled are not sick they just need extra love and care. On April 8th Mariyah woke up with a cold and on April 10th she started to develop a fever. By the next day she could no longer break her fever. On April 12th, 2013 Mariayh was admitted to Lucile Packards Children's Hospital where to this day she currently receives treatment.

Before her hospital stay Mariyah did not require any medical attention. She was a very healthy child. She was disabled, but not sick. Mariyah attended preschool for disabled children Monday thru Friday and she loved it. Please say a prayer to bring Mariyah home! Thank you for taking time to read about Mariyah and her journey. According to her mother Yvette, "Mariyah is the strongest fighter I know! We are going on 2 months of being in the hospital."

Let's show Mariyah and Yvette our support and love by flooding them with cards of support.  You can choose to make a card for Mariyah and/or Yvette or both!! Mariyah loves Barney!  These cards will help to brighten their days through these difficult times. Please sign your cards and let them know where you are from.

This month we are also asking for blank thank you cards.  Mariyah's mom would like to personally send a thank you to everyone who sent in a donation to help cover the costs of Mariyah's medical bills. If you would like to make a donation to help with medical costs, you can find more information about this on Mariyah's page by clicking HERE.
