Apples or Honey

This week in honor of Yom Kippur our theme is honey and apples. So we are looking for any type of project with apples and/or honey such as Apple Cider, Apple Trees, Orchard, Honey comb, etc.).  I designed and created a fun card to give to a friend "just because."

The featured star, the adorable apple, was cut using the Create a Critter Cricut cartridge.  Googly eyes, embossing, and inked edges were added to make the apple pop.

Cooking With Cricut-Challenge #104
Texture

Texture - Texture - Texture

We want to see texture this week at Cooking with Cricut. Perhaps you can try mixing media on your project for a new look.  Think out of the box and challenge yourself.  For my card, there is a combination of paper, ink, flowers, ribbon, embossing, and glitter.  Lots of fun textures for your eyes to explore.  Take a look and see what you think!

This is a side step card.  There are a variety of tutorials that can be found on Youtube for creating side step cards.  As you can see this card was made for a "21st" birthday.  The birthday diva was cut from the Paper Doll Teen Scene Cricut Cartridge.

Great News!

Welcome to Funky Cards

Wow, what a great day.  Can I just say that I am in complete awe of you fabulous crafters!!  The call went out and the call was answered:)  What an amazing blessing to Casa Pacifica.

The I Feel the Love Project asked for 70 cards for the month of September to send to the children who live at Casa Pacifica, a facility that meets kids and families at the most challenging times of their lives and helps them overcome some of life’s most difficult circumstances, including abuse and neglect, complex emotional and behavioral issues, and family crises.

As of today, this goal was met and surpassed.  The I Feel the Love Project has now received at least 80 cards for the month of September.  You will see 50 cards posted in the photo gallery, but one post includes a single photo of 31 cards.

What I didn't tell you at the beginning was that Casa Pacifica also has school children who attend class there but do not live at the facility.  All of the extra cards will be going to the kids in these classes.  I am so excited that we will be albe to reach some of them as well.  This is fabulous!!  Can I just say again how much you all touch my heart each month with your continued support.

I have some great things in the works.  You will learn more about them soon.  For now, thank you so much for all that you do.  The word is spreading and that is amazing.  Together we can bring love and support to those in need.

It is not too late to join us for this month's project.

Welcome To Funky Cards
Cooking With Cricut-Challenge #102
I Feel the Love Project

I am honored once again to announce that Cooking With Cricut is sponsoring a challenge to create cards for the I Feel the Love Project.  This month the IFTL Project is collecting cards to send to  Casa Pacifica.

Per Casa Pacifica's website, "We meet kids and families at the most challenging times of their lives and help them overcome some of life’s most difficult circumstances – abuse and neglect, complex emotional and behavioral issues, and family crises. We restore hope, help children find joy in daily living, and improve families’ chances at making a better life for themselves and at finding a place in their community where they can be successful. Casa Pacifica is committed to children unconditionally over time and through all of life’s ups and downs."

We will be making fun, cheery, and in no way scary or evil Halloween cards to send to the kids who live at Casa Pacifica. The adorable pumpkin on this card was made using the Create a Critter Cricut cartridge, while the Birthday Bash Cricut cartridge was used to cut the lollipop for the sweet scarecrow. This sweet girl comes from Papercraftingworld.com and is such a fun digi stamp!!

A peak at my room

Welcome to Funky Cards

As you know I love redoing the rooms in my house and my bedroom is no exception.  I have made over my bedroom once again.  Naomi, one of my followers, has cleverly noticed one of the things that I have done that I was going to share with you. Since she asked me about it in a comment, I thought I would share my answer with everyone.

Yes Naomi, that is scrapbook paper on my wall!!

I posted this picture in a post about the body pillow I made for my bed.  Naomi looked past the body pillow and saw the scrapbook paper on my wall.  This was one of the items I just added in my redo! I love it.

The walls in my room were purple, but I felt like I needed a change.  I decided to paint them blue but wanted something different on one wall for added interest.  So once they were painted, I added the scrapbook paper to the end wall with the window. This is the focus wall as it is the wall you first see when entering my room.  I added hooks so that I could hang my handbags.  I love all the different colors and fabrics together.

On the right side of the window, I hung my mannequin. Currently she is wearing the apron I made for her.  I didn't have a pattern so I designed this myself.

I also made the headboard for my bed
as well as the curtains.

Directions for hanging scrapbook paper:
  1. Pick out a variety of scrapbook pages to use for your project.
  2. Using wallpaper paste that you purchase or make from a recipe that you find online (I made mine from a recipe I found online), lightly saturate the back of one piece of paper starting in the center and working your way out. You can do this with a sponge.
  3. Place immediately on the wall once the entire paper is covered with paste.
  4. Continue this process until all the paper is used and your room looks fabulous!!
Please note---  I haven't taken mine off of the wall yet, so I have no idea what the wall will look like once removed.  So keep this in mind if you want to try this.  You will have to treat your walls to prepare them for the paper!!!!

Pink Cricut
I am linking this to Link It Up Tuesday with Sarah at Pink Cricut.  Come check out all the projects and be inspired.  So much talent out there!!

Stay tuned for more of this project
as I show you what else I did in my room:)

Have a fabulous day!

Sew What's Up #3

Welcome to Funky Cards
Sew What's up with Madison #3

As most of you know, I LOVE to sew.  When I design or create a project that I think you might enjoy I will share it with you here on my blog.  Maybe it will inspire you to dust off your sewing machine!

-Body Pillow-

Like most teens, I have a collection of t-shirts. These include shirts I got on missions trips, sports jerseys, and other special t's. I no longer wear them all but I am not ready to part with them.  For this project, I chose a variety of my favorite t-shirts and made a body pillow that will sit on my bed.

Here are the front squares sewn together.

And here are the back squares sewn together.

I did not make this so the that the front of the pillow and the back of the pillow would match.  Notice that the "22" Jersey is not in the same spot in the front and in the back.  Of course you could make yours any way you like:)

I aded a zipper at one end so that the fiber filling could be removed and the pillow can be washed.

Time to stuff the pillow with fiber fill.

It took approximately three bags of 20 oz. fiber fill to stuff this pillow.

To create this body pillow:
  1. Start by cutting each t-shirt into either 2 equal squares or rectangles, one for the front and one for the back.
  2. Sew the pieces together as seen in the photos above creating two panels, one for the front, and one for the back. I did rectangles and had some shirts going one way, and some turned 90 degrees.
  3. Sew the front panel the the back panel leaving one end open.
  4. Add the zipper to the open end.
  5. Stuff with fiber fill.
  6. Put it on your bed and enjoy!
All done.  What do you think?

Look for future Sew What's Up With Madison blog posts.

Cooking With Cricut Challenge #101

Welcome To Funky Cards
Cooking With Cricut-Challenge #101
Color Challenge

Cooking with Cricut is kicking off the Fall Design Team challenge season with a color challenge.
I love using browns, creams, greens, and reds together.  This should be fun!!  What should I make?  Hmmm! I got it!

Let's open the door and see what's inside.  The door to this gate fold card was made by simply cutting rectangles with my paper cutter.  The door knobs are brads:)

It is a card to celebrate a 50th birthday!  A man and his dog. How cute is that?  The dog is from the Create a Critter Cricut cartridge. The guy can be found at Papercraftingworld.com.  It was originally a patriotic boy with a sparkler.  The sparkler was removed and instead this guy has a birthday hat and a wand that says "50."

This card is made to look like the inside of a house. The happy birthday greeting is hanging on the wall:) Such fancy wallpaper and chair railing!!

Check out the window and the window covering. The window was cut from the house on the Kate's ABC's Cricut cartridge. The window covering was made by taking a piece of paper and using a punch to scallop the edge and pop it up over the window.  Simple!!

Please be sure to visit the Cooking With Cricut blog to see what the other design team members have cooked up for this color challenge. You have until next Tuesday to enter this week's challenge for a chance to win a fabulous prize from our sponsor, Papercraftingworld.com. Click HERE to enter.

I Feel the Love Project- September 2012

Welcome to Funky Cards
I Feel the Love Project September 2012

Mission statement taken from the Casa Pacifica webite: "We meet kids and families at the most challenging times of their lives and help them overcome some of life’s most difficult circumstances – abuse and neglect, complex emotional and behavioral issues, and family crises. We restore hope, help children find joy in daily living, and improve families’ chances at making a better life for themselves and at finding a place in their community where they can be successful. Casa Pacifica is committed to children unconditionally over time and through all of life’s ups and downs.

Headquartered on a rural 24-acre campus five miles from the Pacific Ocean, Casa Pacifica serves abused and neglected children and adolescents, and those with severe emotional, social, behavioral, and mental health challenges. Our primary service area is California’s Central Coast, but referrals come from all over. We provide a comprehensive array of state of the art services to meet the varied and complex needs of children, youth and emerging adults in our care..."

It was learned that there are currently around 200 kids who attend school at Casa Pacifica and approximately 70 kids who live at the facility.

The I Feel the Love Project will be making Halloween Cards during the month of September (handed out during the month of October) to be given to the kids who live at Casa Pacifica. Each year the facility has an amazing Halloween party for the kids. It is our goal to send a card to at least each child who lives there to help celebrate this occasion.  We will need to make at least 70 cards.  I know we can do this!!  These kids deserve our love and support!  (Please keep cards fun and cheery, nothing scary or evil).

All you need to do is:

Submit your card/s by September 30 to:
