Sew What's Up #2

Welcome to Funky Cards
Sew What's up with Madison #2

As most of you know, I LOVE to sew.  When I design or create a project that I think you might enjoy I will share it with you here on my blog.  Maybe it will inspire you to dust off your sewing machine!

-Fun and Funky Ruffle Knit Skirt-

This project started with this fabulous ruffle knit material I bought this summer while we were on our trip to Georgia.

For this project, I decided to use the coral material!  I pictured a cute skirt I could pair with a variety of different things I already own.

Other than thread, all I needed was black elastic to finish off the top waist band.

To create this skirt:
  1. Start by cutting the material and sewing a seem to create a tube approximately 10" bigger than your waist and longer than the desired length.
  2. Cut a piece of 1.5" wide elastic band that measures around your waist.
  3. Sew the material to the elastic band carefully gathering the  material as you sew.
  4. Cut the skirt to the desired length.  Note that this is a ruffled knit and you can cut under the last ruffle and there won't be a raw edge to sew.

I used a zig zag stitch to sew the elastic band to the tube.

All done.  What do you think?

Look for future Sew What's Up With Madison blog posts.  I still have more ruffle knit material!!

Thanks for stopping by!

What's Up?

Welcome to Funky Cards

What's Up?

It's Saturday and time to craft!   What are you making today?  I had the day off and decided that I wanted to craft.  One thing I wanted to make for sure was a card to send to my friend Austin.  He is proudly serving our country as a member of the US Navy.  He is currently attending the Naval Academy and he loves getting mail.  I thought this would brighten his day.

I added a personal message to the inside.

The stamp is from Pink By Design, "Our Kids" and says "You are loved."  This stamp set has a variety of really great stamps and I use it all the time!

I hope you are having fun crafting today!

This hop is a surprise to Melin, our very TOP CHEF, who thinks that today we are posting a black and white challenge. Instead, we are taking time to say "Thank You" to Melin for being the best TOP CHEF and blog coordinator/owner there is:)  We love you Melin (x 100!!)  Thank you for the opportunity to be on the best design team and for the chance to grow as a designer for the past two years.  You are the best and you ROCK!!

If you happened upon my blog today by chance, please head back to the Cooking With Cricut blog.  You will want to start at the beginning to see what Jen, our awesome blog team coordinator has to say to Melin.

I thought that it was only fitting to use one of Melin's digi stamps on her card. This digi stamp can be found at Papercraftingworld.com and is called "QT Patootie Sitting."

QT Patootie is sitting on this fabulous chair cut from the Wall Decor and More Cricut cartridge.  It was embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder.  The Plantin SchoolBook Cricut cartridge was used the cut the oval for the sentiment frame, while the sentiment was cut from the Pooh Font Set Cricut Cartridge.  The frame is embossed with the Cuttlebug Paisley embossing folder.

Now it is time to hop over to Jenny's blog to read what Jenny has to say about her experience at Cooking With Cricut.

Please help us say thank you to Melin for all that she does to provide us with these awesome challenges and fabulous prizes each week by heading back to the Cooking With Cricut website and leaving a comment.

Cooking With Cricut Taste of Summer Blog Hop- Day 2

Welcome to Funky Cards
Cooking With Cricut
Taste of Summer Blog Hop
Day 2
If you arrived from Jenny's blog, you are in the right place.  If not, please head back to the beginning to Melin's blog so that you don't miss any of the yummy projects from today's hop!

As you know by now, we are creating projects with our favorite summer foods and including at least one Cricut cut!  Well, this was an easy project for me.  In our house, it doesn't matter the season, it is all about chocolate.  During the summer we like quick and easy go to snacks so I knew just the thing I could whip up for this blog hop!  Chocolate dipped wafer cookies.  These are so good, especially with fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream. I think you get the picture!  YUMMY!!!

"Have a taste" - These are so easy to make.  All you need to do is melt milk chocolate chips (or semi sweet if you prefer) and dip the wafer cookie into the melted chocolate.  I used a vanilla cookie but you could use whatever flavor cookie you like. They take several hours to harden.  I put them in the refrigerator on really hot days.

This is a clever way to let your guests know that it is ok to have a taste!  This adorable girl was cut at 5" from the Paper Dolls Teen Scene Cricut cartridge.  The "have a taste" sentiment can be found on the Cupcake Lite Cricut cartridge, while its frame can be located on the Formal Occasions Cricut Cartridge.

There is a toothpick carefully adhered to the back of the girl's left leg which is stuck into one of the cookies to hold her up:)  I love how this turned out.  I like decorating the table and making it look fun!

Thank you for stopping by today to spend some time with the Design Team at Cooking With Cricut. This is the last stop on the blog hop.

Have a wonderful day!

Cooking With Cricut Challenge #99 - Back to School

Welcome To Funky Cards
Cooking With Cricut-Challenge #99
Back to School

I can't even believe it is already time to start thinking about back to school projects!  As you know, if you have been following me for awhile, this is my SENIOR year in high school:)  I can't wait to graduate.  So I guess I am excited to start school this year.  Senior year!!

Every year I decorate the outside of my school  binders.  I don't use my friends' pictures, but pretty paper and Cricut cut outs:) I can always spot my binder in a pile of binders!  For this week's challenge, back to school project, I decided to decorate my English binder so you could see what one of my binders looks like!

This project stars with a 12" x 12" patterned piece of paper cut to 9.5" x 11". This is the exact size that will slip into the plastic cover of a binder. In this case you can see that I cut and tore two different pieces of patterned paper equal to 9.5" x 11''.  To accent the clocks on the paper, I chose to add a grandfather clock using the Formal Occasions Cricut cartridge.

In addition, the owl was added for charm and character using the Create a Critter Cricut cartridge.  She was inked around the edges to give her a bit of pop:)

The word "English" was cut from the Jubilee Cricut cartridge.   The project is ready to slip under the protective , clear, plastic cover of my English binder.  I left it out so you can see it better.  It is a perfect fit every time!!

Sew What's Up With Madison #1- Lacy Shorts

Welcome to Funky Cards
Sew What's up with Madison #1

As most of you know, I LOVE to sew.  When I design or create a project that I think you might enjoy I will share it with you here on my blog.  Maybe it will inspire you to dust off your sewing machine!

-Turning plain shorts into lacy shorts-

This project starts with a plain pair of shorts
and a small bit of lace (less than shown).

I was able to find these shorts on sale for almost
next to nothing and they were originally $40
(which I would never pay!!!)

The lace was cut, pinned, and sewn to one side of
the shorts at a time.  This was done to the front
of the shorts only.

You have to be really careful not to run over the buttons by the pockets if you have any or you will break your sewing machine needle like I did!

The second side is pinned and ready to sew.

All done.  What do you think?

How do they look?

I love them:)

Look for future Sew What's Up With Madison blog posts:)

Cooking With Cricut-Challenge #98
I Feel the Love Project

I am honored once again to announce that Cooking With Cricut is sponsoring a challenge to create cards for the I Feel the Love Project.  This month the IFTL Project is collecting cards to send to 9 year old Olivia.  Olivia's mom loss her battle with cancer last year when Olivia was just 8 years old. This is the card I designed and created for Olivia using one of my favorite Cricut cartridges, Kates's ABC's.  The seniments speak to Olivia's character, "amazing, courageous, and beautiful."  The stamps, which are all a part of the "Amazing You" stamp set by K. Andrew Designs were lined up on one block and stamped at one time.

I would really appreciate if you would consider joining us this month in creating a card for Olivia.  All the details can be found be clicking HERE.  When you complete your card.

Hey everyone!  I don't know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but it is HOT here.  It is going to be over 100 degrees for the next week.  Stay cool if you live in California!
