Day 1: Jillian's 12th Birthday Celebration

Welcome to Funky Cards and
Jillian's 12th Birthday Celebration Project #1!!

Today is Day 1 of Jillian's birthday celebration. She will be turning 12 and I will be posting birthday themed projects in her honor for the next four days to help her celebrate:)

You can see more birthday projects and really get inspired by heading to Deanne's blog, Deanne's Creative Juice.  Deanne is hosting this event and all of the participants' projects can be found on her blog.  Click HERE.

Here is a list of the participants:
Deanne's Creative Juice
Anniebees Craftroom
Favor 8 Favors
Scrapping Card Making and Living with Fibro

Scrappin with Cricut
Courts Craft Corner
Handcrafted Simply by Us

My loyal followers know that I am all about recycling.  I try to make projects from things I find around the house.  I love an altered project even as a birthday present!!  My friends love to see what they will get next.

Guess what I am going to turn this old Christmas box into?  Give up?  Well one of my friends who better not be peeking will soon find out....
It is a cute piggy (in this case birdy) bank!  I made it so it can't open.  The lid is glued shut!!  My friend wants to save her money so this is really a way to make sure she won't cheat!!  Once she drops in the money it won't come out unless she ruins my present.
Each side was embellished with pretty paper and the cute little bird cut from the Create a Critter Cricut cartridge.  Each side also has three gems in the bottom right corner.

I used the Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge to cut the triangles for the banners and my new, (which I love), Pink By Design Banner Stamp Set to stamp them before adding the letters.  The letters were cut from the Simply Sweet Cricut cartridge.
Each side has a different message: Shine, Hope, Love, Faith...perfect for my friend!!
For the top I braided yarn and attached it as a border around the edges just to finish it off.

***I will be telling you on on a later post all about my give-a-way. In order to be eligible, you must leave me a comment each of the next four days.  Each day tell me one thing you like about my project and whether or not you have made one before.

Every participant is linking their project back to the hostess' blog.  Bloggers will vote on their favorite projects.  CLICK HERE to vote for the project you believe deserves to win a new Cricut cartridge:)

Jillian has a hop going on over at her blog at A Jillian Vance Design! Check it out!!

Each Monday Alex, at You Had Me at Craft, will be having a "Linking Party." All you need to do is link something to her blog that you made yourself.  I think I will link my project

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. What an awesome gift, Madison! I like to recycle as much as possible too and I save even small pieces of my papers so I can use them later instead of buying a bunch of new stacks. I haven't made a piggy (or birdy) bank before but that's a great idea I could use for my grandkids to make them save their money. I love the braided yarn trim you added to the top edge. Really cool! I'll bet your friend loves it.

  8. Very nice job. It is so sweet of you to make it for your friend. The one thing I like about it is the bird. I think it is a sweet bird. Funny....I am thinking and I don't ever recall making a bird before. I stamped images but no die cuts. Great project!
