As we take this journey together, let us take the time to celebrate life, live for today and remember the lives of the women and men no longer with us.

The primary color of the project needs to be pink.  It also needs to be a new project.  For this card, the message is one of hope.  A circle has no end, so hope in the circle represents never ending hope:)  Hope for a cure, for a brighter tomorrow for all breast cancer patients.

Welcome to the Flashback Favorite Cooking With Cricut challenge.  This week we are looking at projects from the past!  Do you have a favorite project?  This birthday card that I made for my cousin Alex's 19th birthday is one of my recent favorites!

Today I want to share it with you again in case you missed it the first time.  My cousin ROCKS!!

This is the outside of the card.

It opens straight up to this #19!!

Next you will see the "A" as I begin to spell Alex's name.

The next page has the "L" and the "E".

Here comes the "X" with a message that reads, 

"Cousins by chance... friends by choice."

I just love this page.  Nothing but love from Pink By Design!! These stamps are all from their "Our Kids" Stamp Set.

Here is Alex' special birthday greeting tucked in the cute mini envelope:) 

The template for this card looks like this.  Start with two 5.5" x 11" scored in half and taped together as seen in the photo. 

Next you will need to add a third 5.5" x 11" card scored in half.

When you tape the third card onto the first two as shown in the photo above, you will get the card template shown in this photo.  You will have 7 sides to decorate, not including the very back side of the one middle square (where I put my stamp).

Click on the photo to enlarge. 

The happy birthday (cover) is on the other side of the 19.  So if you fold down the 19 you will see the front of the card.

If you fold the "A" side in, you will see the side with all the Pink By Design stamps.  If you fold in the "X" side you will see the birthday greeting and envelope.

  You can bend the front of the card backwards and stand the card up so that you can read the name "ALEX."

***Tip of the Day*** 

I have a tip that seems to help when you are using thin paper, typically pretty patterned paper and trying to cut out tricky, thin curves like this #1 that I used for my card today.  

Notice the not so lovely number one on the left.   If I cut this with the pressure at minimum it wouldn't cut.  If I turned up the pressure the paper tore.  Every time I made this cut, I got the same result:(  Now look at the #1 on the right:)  Success!!!!  I turned the pressure setting down to minimum and I turned on the multi-cut button.  

The multi-cut button will automatically cut the image out twice before it stops.  So, be patient.  Make sure you don't try to remove the image after the first cut.  Look how nicely it works!!  So now your know the secret.  If it tears, turn down the pressure and turn on the multi-cut.  It works like a charm:)  I don't change my speed at all but you may have to adjust that depending on what you are making.  My speed was set at high.  See what works for you! Good morning and welcome back to My Cricut Craft Room Card Creating Tuesdays.  I hope to inspire you with my work today and to encourage you to try something new! As you know, each week I will be sharing with you new cards that I have designed and adding a few tips that I have learned along the way. 

I am so proud to announce that after a year of hard work and dedication, my brother Dalton just received his first set of orders.  Dalton will be joining the Blue Crew on the USS Georgia stationed in Kings Bay, Georgia.  Congratulations Dalton.  You will make an outstanding sailor.    We appreciate your service in the US Navy!!!

Dalton will  be receiving this congratulation card when I finally see him later this month!! I wanted it to look masculine for sure so I made careful design and color choices.  The border has mini submarines:)  White sheer ribbon was used so that these submarines could be seen.  For your information, it was announced by the Navy in October of 2010 that the USS Georgia would be one of the first submarines to accommodate women:)

***Tip of the Day***

***This tip is for those of you who own a Gypsy. When I first started to design this card I knew I wanted to have a piece across the bottom that looked like the ocean but had submarines on the border (if possible).

In order to achieve this final outcome, I needed to use the Gypsy.    First, it was necessary to use the Gypsy to weld the waves from the Zooballoo Cricut cartridge to the top of the Stand and Salute submarine border.

In this photo you can see that the top of the Stand and Salute border does not have waves.  Using the Gypsy, it is possible to weld the two pieces together by placing both the images from both cartridges onto your mat.  Once this is done, you can lay them on top of each other until the waves from Zooballoo show just above the top of the submarine border.  They can then be welded together.

The second reason you would want to use your Gypsy for this project is that it will make the border seamless.  It would take two pieces of the Stand and Salute submarine border to fit across the card.  With the Gypsy, the measurements can be manipulated to fit any size you need and as you can see, it will cut this border in one piece.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me anytime at funkycards @ charter dot net (no spaces).

Today I would like to announce the winners of the Labor of Love Halloween Blog Hop Card challenge.  There are four prizes that I would like to give away today.  These four prizes were chosen by Random Organizer from the names of the participants who created and sent cards to the "I Feel the Love Project"/ September challenge for the kids at Pediatric Specialty Care.  You can see all the cards that were submitted by clicking HERE.  To keep it fair, every card that was received got a chance to win.  Not all the cards are shown in the gallery because some are duplicates, but they did all got a number and were part of the Random Organizer drawing.

I Feel The Love- October

Welcome to Funky Cards

I am honored to announce today that for the month of October, Ethan Pinter will be the recipient of our handcrafted BIRTHDAY cards.   

Ethan was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia at the age of 2 months old. Thanks to a liver transplant and the wonderful care he received from his doctors, Ethan will be celebrating his 2nd birthday in November.  We will be joining the celebration by making handmade birthday cards for this precious little boy:)  

When Ethan was 10 months old, he and his mother lived at the Ronald McDonald house while they waited for a liver transplant for Ethan.  He received his gift of life on Feb 18, 2011.  Ethan is doing quite well but he will be in the danger zone till the age of 5. He has been in and out of the hospital since the age of two months. His mother had to live at the Ronald McDonald House for 9 months. She said that it was the hardest 9 months of her life.  She was separated from her daughter, Haley, who is now 8 years old and her now husband, Chris, for this period of time. Ethan's mom believes that it is important to "live each day to the fullest and do not take life for granted."
